New Leader Set to Rock Sybiz

Australian accounting software pioneer has appointed a new leader with a passion for creating opportunity.

South African-born Tony Lorge, who takes the reins at Sybiz from October 1, loves recording unknown rock'n'roll bands in his garage studio, a commitment to unearthing new potential that has translated into his business experience.

As Managing Director of Sybiz Software, Mr Lorge will focus on setting sales records as the company continues to post strong performance at a tune that other accounting software companies have posted massive sales slumps in the post-GST doldrums.

Mr Lorge said his priority was to leverage the global resources of the Softline Group, the multinational software company that bought Sybiz in 1998. "Sybiz has established a great national and international sales channel and customer base," he said.

"My aim is to ensure that Sybiz utilises the resources of the Softline Group to deliver the most innovative and cost-effective products to its clients."

Mr Lorge takes over from Peter Lucas, the current managing director who joined the company 25 years ago when he was just 32 years of age. "It's a long time at one company, so I have a number of activities that I want to pursue, ranging from business consulting to research and development of generating electricity from wind power," said Mr Lucas.

Mr Lorge said Peter Lucas had led Sybiz during an important period of transition. "He guided Sybiz successfully through the Y2K and GST challenges and had built a successful software innovator that supplies national and global markets," he said.

Mr Lorge has a proven track record of successfully building an accounting software business. In six years from 1992, he built a world leading software consulting firm, with more than 1000 customers and 200 employees. Softline purchased this company in 1998.

Softline has a customer base of more than 335,000 businesses, encompassing approximately 5.2 million users around the globe. Sybiz Software is an Australian accounting software pioneer that has tens of thousands of clients in this country with exports to regions including Asia, the US and Europe.
