Kintera Reveals What's Hot, What's Not in Charitable Giving This Season According to Recent Survey Results
SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--What do Africa, secure online transactions and $1,000 have in common? They've all made the list of "What's Hot" in charitable giving this holiday season, according to Kintera's Year-End Charitable Giving Survey 2006.
The Kintera® Inc. (NASDAQ:KNTA - News) report, which surveyed 660 consumers with household income of more than $100,000, identified the following trends in year-end and holiday charitable giving:
What's Hot:
Making a year-end or holiday donation of up to $1,000 Giving the same or more in 2006 compared to 2005 Donating to Africa-related causes Mission-driven giving Secure online transactions High availability of nonprofit Web sites What's Not:
Donating more due to extra money from lower gas prices Volunteering this December Charitable gifts in excess of $1,000 Donations driven by tax advantages Web site downtime during holiday giving crunch "Consumers will be donating this year-end giving season and it's up to nonprofits to use the best technology, communications and practices to ensure they're reaching out to the right donors in the right ways," said Harry E. Gruber, M.D., CEO for Kintera Inc. "Trends indicate that issues of importance to donors this season include online transaction security, availability of nonprofit Web sites and the organization's mission. Effectively communicating their security standards and successful work toward their mission - as well as providing a reliable Web presence - are all ways that nonprofits can learn from donor trends in order to have a successful year-end."
Key survey findings from Kintera's survey include:
Nearly 60 percent of consumers are not motivated by tax advantages to make charitable contributions this December. In contrast, only 13 percent of respondents are very motivated by tax advantages. Of consumers who plan to donate this year for holiday or year-end giving, 75 percent plan to donate up to $100. An additional 21 percent plan to donate up to $1,000. Six in 10 consumers will not be making more charitable contributions this season despite lower gas prices. In fact, less than 15 percent of respondents indicated they would make more charitable contributions because of lower gas prices. Africa and other human services issues are prompting charitable giving for 9.2 percent of consumers this holiday season. More than two out of three people will not volunteer this December.
